Berthon was instrumental in bringing these graduations to fruition in 2011 to help raise the profile of apprenticeships in the marine industry. Now in its 4th year the event has gone from strength to strength and during the show some 60 apprentices received their certificates from Sir Ben Ainslie in the presence of Fiona Pankhurst, president of British Marine. The event not only recognizes the hard work and dedication that these young people have put in over the last 4 years it is also an opportunity for them to celebrate with family and friends and showcase what a diverse industry we all work in.
The event also gave Paul Harris the opportunity to be introduced to the marine industry and some of its finest. Paul has been employed to carry on the work Berthon has been doing partnered with the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights to fund 1st year apprentice wages and mentor SME’s new to apprenticeships. Employed by the ‘Shipwrights’ Paul is based at the British Marine headquarters in Egham and will be working closely with both British Marine and Berthon helping to continue raising the profile of skills based training in our industry.
