We are excited to announce the imminent launch of the new Windy 39 Grand Zonda, which will make her world debut at the Dusseldorf Boat Show in January. The 39 will be a taking up the mantle from renowned models such as the 35 Khamsin and 42 Grand Bora which are coming to the end of their production run, after over a decade of success at the top of their class.
The Design concept for the 39 is to offer a capable off-shore sports cruiser, that will be equally at home in the UK, Scandinavia or warmer climates. As such she will offer versatility in a choice of cockpit arrangement, galley specification and flexible optional equipment.
The 39 will follow key Windy DNA offering class leading sea keeping from her aggressive deep-v hull, which has evolved from the Windy 31 Zonda. The 31 was reviewed by Motor Boats Monthly as the “best hull we’ve ever tested” and was awarded the accolade of 2012 Motor Boat of the Year. She will also benefit from the exceptional level of finish expected from any Windy Boat.
Windy have also partnered with Super yacht designers Dubois who have come up with the sleek exterior aesthetic, while Design Unlimited have detailed the interior.
The Grand Zonda will be available with powerful engine options from Volvo Penta which include the Volvo D6-370 and D6-400 installations on outdrives. The engines have common rail fuel injection systems, double overhead camshafts, 4 valves per cylinder, turbocharger, compressor and aftercooler. The interaction of these, the large swept volume and the EVC system, results in exceptional diesel performance combined with low emissions and excellent economy.
Windy also specify all new Windy Boats with the EVC Power trim assistance feature, which automatically tunes the outdrive trim position to the boats RPM. This helps to improve economy, driving experience and acceleration. EVC engine computers are also included which give real time fuel flow readings and information such as range, trip distance etc.
Windy predict the 39 will offer in the region of 45kt top speed performance with the D6-400 engines, but will comfortably cruise around the 30-35kt mark. We are confident that the efficient hull shape will also offer some impressive economy figures, as with the rest of the range.
The new generation canopy system on the 39 has been designed to be easy to deploy by one person in the unexpected event of bad weather. The canopy bars electronically lengthen which removes the need for adjusting fiddly brackets. It will be available in a range of high-quality fabrics and colours, and can be adapted for use as a bimini top / sun-shade in warmer climates.
The aft tender garage has also proven a major selling point with customers placing pre-orders, as on many craft of this size (including many Windy Boats) the tender usually has to be stored on the bathing platform with snap davits or deflated.
The cockpit will also come in a choice of a sports or sunpad configuration similar to the 35 Khamsin. However the standard layout will include moveable bench seats and a large fixed aft sun pad with an adjustable back rest. We are also expecting a large wet bar with space for a cockpit grill.
Amongst other useful features, the 39 will also offer an ergonomic helm position with commanding views whilst underway, assisted by the boat’s well balanced and level ride. There will be space for a larger chart plotter, a dedicated chart area and a comfortable pilot sports chair, with space for two co-pilots.
Windy Boats have partnered with 2013 Super Yacht Award finalists Design Unlimited to provide the final design and detailing for the interior finish. She will offer two comfortable cabins with plenty of light and a separate shower compartment.
The options are yet to be confirmed, however Windy are planning to offer a choice of galley configurations to meet her new owners’ needs. For example you will be able to specify the boat with a large double fridge, or alternatively traditional equipment such as a diesel fired ceramic hob for those who wish to stick religiously to day trips only.
The 39 prototype has already started her build and we are expecting the first boat to be ready for inspection at the Dusseldorf Boat Show in January or at the Windy shipyard in Sweden towards the end of 2013. We have already taken pre-orders from customers wishing to guarantee delivery in 2014.
