Berthon and the London Yacht, Jet and Prestige Car Show

April 29, 2015

The London Yacht, Jet & Prestige Car Show

Held in the magnificent building of Old Billingsgate in the heart of the City of London, with yachts on display at St Katherine’s Dock, a hop, skip and a couple of jumps away from Old Billingsgate, the exhibition showcased the best our industry as well as some really funky cars, together with a number of exhibitors who knew lots about wing span, rotor blades and stuff…

Berthon Managing Director Brian May shares his take this new London show:

Our stand was in Old Billingsgate and we had a busy 3 days meeting clients and colleagues in the industry, speaking about yacht refits, yacht maintenance and the busy yacht brokerage market.

It was a perfect occasion for John Burnie, Berthon’s New Business Manager, to get his feet wet meeting clients from as far afield as Africa who were also able to see insurance agents, rib manufacturers, charter brokers, as well as fine art galleries, jewellery and interior furnishing companies.

Positioned amidst the largest financial centre in Europe, and just a short distance from some of the world’s most exclusive residential districts such as Mayfair, Knightsbridge, Chelsea and Kensington, this event is designed to attract London’s elite. Held in April and coinciding with a time when many of London’s wealthiest international residents and visitors are ‘in town’, just after the start of the ‘Flat’ racing season, this event is also perfectly timed for the summer season, when many people book up their summer yacht charters and purchase new cars for the fine weather ahead.

Down on the water were new yachts from Princess, Gunfleet, Oyster, Hallberg Rassy and our friends at Discovery – and the sun beat down – it was extraordinary.

Also on display was GLORIANA, which was the lead vessel in the Diamond Jubilee pageant, where over 1000 boats, ships and water craft paraded down the River Thames in 2012 with Queen Elizabeth aboard. She is 94 feet (29m) and is powered by either 2 electric inboard engines or by 18 oarsmen and can carry 34 passengers and crew. She is made from sweet chestnut from Prince Charles’s estate.

On the 4 wheel and wing thing, companies including Aston Martin, Jaguar, Landover, McLaren, Noble, joined various aviation charter companies to remind us that our dreams are available to be had!

A terrific event, close to the centre of London, good restaurants, easy transportation, and open until 2100hrs, it attracted plenty of City types over lunch and on their way home; we look forward to seeing you there in 2016.
