Cannes Boat Show
The weather was glorious in Cannes and it matched both the atmosphere and number of serious yacht buyers attending was much improved over 2012. The Cannes Show is a splendid show case of the best of yachting and is very well laid out.
On the Windy side of things we were delighted to sign 2 pre-orders for 2 new Windy models that will launch next year – the Windy 39 Camira and the Windy 29 Coho. We also had a lot of interest in the Windy 31 Zonda that we had on display as well as the Windy 40 Maestro. We are negotiating with a number of clients now and we look forward to delivering a number of new Windys to the South of France for the 2014 season.
The brokerage side of the business was also busy which is encouraging, and we were also delighted that our joint central listing, Shipman 80 PAULA ROSA was on display on the Shipman stand were she attracted a lot of interest. She will return to her home berth in Palma in early October where she will be available for viewing. Contact email@example.com.
Newport Boat Show & Newport Brokerage Show
Berthon showed a Swan 66’ TOUCAN and a Discovery 67 ‘ MORE MAGIC Med moored along the west dock at the Newport Shipyard from Tuesday, September 10th through Monday September 17th at the Newport Brokerage Show. The row consisted of approximately 10 large sailing yachts, including two Oysters, Custom yachts, a CNB, GITANA, and a Marlow 83 power yacht. The weather was fantastic and we had many brokers on board in addition to potential clients.
Both yachts are recent and in superb condition. TOUCAN was based at Berthon in Lymington at the start of her life and has been skipper maintained from Day One. She comes with the essential DNA of the Swan marque – she is a fast ocean passage maker and capable Regatta entrant to boot. Of course the finish is also of the first quality and she is totally equipped for virtually any eventuality.
You will read more of the Discovery 67’ MORE MAGIC in this blog – suffice it to say – she is the business.
The Newport Boat Show ran concurrent with the brokerage show and Berthon were showing a Moody 41 which was very well received, being ideal for the Eastern Seaboard of the USA with her easy sail plan and generous and well thought out accommodation.
Alan McIlroy from Berthon UK was at Newport for the Show adding to the team at a very busy and productive time. The business of follow up and taking leads forward is now at hand and results are now coming forward. This sun soaked show demonstrates that the USA market continues to gain traction and well priced yachts that are well presented are finding new owners in this market.
Southampton Boat Show
The 2013 Southampton Boat Show, was blessed with extremely unpredictable weather (including a F8 squall!!), but despite this the outcome looks very positive. The attendance was similar to that in 2012, however the quality and number of serious leads significantly increased.
It is very noticeable that a real sense of optimism has returned to the market place, with many prospective purchasers and long standing clients seeing recovery and growth in their own businesses, which of course leads to improved confidence – especially important for new yacht sales. Another positive sign was that marine finance was back on the agenda – another sign of increased confidence in the market.
Windy are now really starting to see a return on their investment with their new-generation of Windy Boats. A good example of this is the 31’ Zonda which is simply unique in the marketplace. She is perfect for those wishing to downsize and simplify their boating experience.
Windy continues to dominate with exceptional sea keeping and a great driving experience, coupled with total quality of build. The launch of the new 39’ Camira at the Dusseldorf Boat Show in January is attracting interest and pre-orders have already been taken. A bigger sister to the 31’ with all the glamour and good looks, she also comes with twin cabin accommodation, a choice of cockpit layout and a tender garage.
The new generation canopy systems were much demonstrated at Southampton 2013 with the intermittent rain showers, proving that they can indeed be put up in 5 minutes… making the 26 – 31 truly suitable for our glorious British weather! The optional diesel fired heating systems were also very welcome.
We are now busy with sea trials booked and prospective Windy owners taking advantage of the incentives available for those wishing to commit to a build slot before the end of October.
We had a dry stand at Southampton at the Boat Show which had the advantage of being out of the weather! The stand was able to show case the Berthon Group showing what Berthon can offer as a truly vertically integrated business helping with everything from yacht sales in 3 countries, to berthing at Berthon Lymington Marina, to a large and modern refit facility. With over 100 skilled craftsmen now working in the big blue sheds anything from a minor pitstop to major nautical makeover is totally possible
