The RORC Caribbean 600 kicked off this morning. The race has established itself as a mainstay in the sailing calendar. Now in its 8th year, it has an ever growing list of competitors. The race start is in English Harbour and goes from Antigua to Barbuda and on to St Kitts. Racers travel around St Johns then to Gustavia, St Martin and then there’s a long leg down and around Guadeloupe to Barbuba. Finally they travel around Redonda and back to Antigua. 600 nautical miles of racing all told.
In the 2016 edition Berthon is represented by their New Business Manager, John Burnie. John will be at the Helm of LA BETE (Ex RAMBLER 90), is a co-founder of the RORC Caribbean 600 and is no stranger to the rigours of the race. John has spent more than 10 years living, cruising and racing around the Caribbean islands.
LA BETE is something of a weapon and perfect for this race. Berthon International Yacht Brokerage were heavily involved in the sale of this beautiful Reichel/Pugh 90; she knows the race track pretty well having been round it 3 times already (1st 2010, 2nd 2012, 6th 2014.)
Everyone at Berthon would like to wish fairs winds and good sailing to everyone competing in this very prestigious race. We estimate that our clients are on around 50% of the yachts, and our brokers have been associated with at least 20 of the 53 strong fleet.
Here are an image from LA BETE during some pre-race training.
John has promised us some updates from around the race course depending on when and if he can get connectivity.
