Berthon hosted the World Cruising Club for their inaugural Bluewater Open Boat Weekend on the 7th & 8th of June 2014. The event was aimed at those in the boat search phase of their count-down to offshore cruising providing plenty of opportunity to review the right choice of boat, plan a refit, and manage the costs of cruising, as well as meeting and mingling with experienced long distance/ocean cruisers, relevant experts, and knowledgeable brokers, all sharing stories to promote inspiration in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
WCC already run a number of events and seminars, but these tend to be focused on people that already have boats, whereas this weekend was to show the vast difference and styles of yacht available on the market and allow people thinking of bluewater cruising to pose a myriad of questions to the assembled experts on hand at Berthon; 8 yachts were chosen to show how diverse the choice can be and with many more to look over on the Berthon gantries attendees certainly had their plates full. Furthermore the following seminars were held over the two days:
The majority of the seminars overflowed to the point where standing room only along the walls was even hard to come by, which is testament to the information imparted by industry experts and experienced ARC sailors.
Other representatives from various companies exhibiting products and services invaluable to bluewater cruisers were:
Berthon Brokers and Refit managers were on hand to support the weekend, taking part in the seminars, panel discussions and providing yard tours. Our hospitality even extended to end of day drinks in the warm summer sunshine.
World Cruising Club Director, Jeremy Wyatt had the following to say about the weekend, “We were delighted with the response from aspiring ocean sailors to our first Bluewater Open Boat Weekend, in association with Berthon at their Lymington base and Yachting World magazine. During the 2 day event, over 160 people visited the eight open boats, chatted with former ARC sailors, and listened intently to a wide variety of presentations from experienced bluewater cruisers and industry professionals, about choosing the right boat for offshore cruising. Superb weather and the Red Arrows to end the day, really made it a special occasion which both informed and inspired in equal measure.”
