Following repair and restoration work completed in summer 2011 by Berthon to ROWENA – a Grand Banks 42 Classic from 1968 – affectionately known as a “Woodie”, she has cruised extensively with her owners with visits to St Malo, along the Cornish Coast, Channel Islands and Paimpol where the owners sent a card saying “ROWENA is the Queen of the marina here, with everyone stopping to look at her as she is so different from all the other boats here. Big festival on and lots of wooden sailing boats in the other basin, so very busy.”
She continues to look good and is a credit to her owners. Wherever she ties up there is always lots of interest in her and the question “is she a wooden one and how old is she?” is a regular one. This gives a great sense of pride for the owners and for us all here at Berthon to have been part of her preservation.
Rowena has returned to us and is currently back in our sheds having seasonal antifouling and anodes work, along with upgrading of engine controls and monitoring systems, attention to the raised aft deck and further paintwork.
