Berthon recently exhibited at Seawork International 2015, held at the Port of Southampton. Seawork is the largest and fastest growing international commercial marine and workboat exhibition and conference in Europe, attracting more than 7,350 visitors from 70 countries. It is pitched as the event where commercial buyers, sellers, innovators and legislators come together for 3 invaluable days each year.
Berthon was there, flying the flag on board one of our Shannon lifeboats built by us for the RNLI, allowing us to showcase the commercial side of the business. This was the first time that a Shannon was exhibited in public.
During the event we had over 800 visitors on board, including new and existing clients. Many of the other Seawork exhibitors came aboard as word spread like wildfire around the exhibition hall of the innovative installation and high quality.
Berthon Director Dominic May commented: “everyone was thoroughly impressed with the high standard of finish on board this Search and Rescue vessel. She was only launched during the week before the show, but I was able to bring her here from Lymington at 33.5 knots”. He continued that “it’s truly encouraging for Berthon to have so much positive praise from the industry for our build quality and attention to detail. A product like this, at a show like this, really demonstrates what Berthon does best.”
Berthon has built 38 lifeboats for the RNLI in the last 30 years, with so far 9 out of an order of 12 Shannon’s delivered in the last 2 years alone. Previously Berthon built the Severn lifeboat, and before that the Arun.
Berthon not only works for the RNLI, but also with other commercial operators, including port authorities such as ABP (Associated British Ports). Berthon also helps maintain the MoD’s fleet of 2,500 boats under 80’. Refits of pilot launches, police boats, dive boats and commercial RIBs move through the big blue sheds at a blistering pace to keep up with the pressures of the boats’ 24/7 usage profiles. In the last five years Berthon has repaired, serviced or completely refitted some 350 RIBs with either diesel and petrol engine replacements or rebuilds, including jet propulsion systems.
Seawork 2015 has been a great 3 days, allowing our commercial side to get the airing it deserves and to meet new and prospective clients.
