Designed by Ben Lexen, designer of Australia II and built to challenge for the 1987 America’s Cup in Perth. More recently, with Russell Coutts at the helm she won the 12M class at the RYS 150th America’s Cup Jubilee Regatta in 2001 and has been successfully campaigned on the Mediterranean 12 Metre circuit. Now in new ownership, she has arrived at Berthon for a refit to include paint work, systems and rigging overhaul. She will be based here at Berthon and is scheduled to be sailing again in 2016.
This Classic S&S Swan has recently arrived by road transport from the South of France. Kira is at Berthon for a pit stop including cosmetic repairs including resprays to the underwater area and topsides along with a thorough overhaul of the masts and rigging. Despite being a 1971 boat, she still has mostly original deck gear and rigging.
A regular visitor here at Berthon, Wings returned to the yard at the beginning of the summer after last season in the Mediterranean. Berthon’s skilled shipwrights have undertaken a variety of work on board using traditional materials and fittings in order to maintain the yachts authenticity and heritage. Wings sailed to Germany and Denmark where she enjoyed a successful regatta campaign in the Baltic. She has just arrived back at our yard by road transport where she will be based for the rest of the season.
We have also had some other notable arrivals ashore in the last few weeks, to mention but a few:
BRISTOLIAN – CNB 92 – for Solent racing and new furler and associated hydraulic repairs
KIVA – Hinkley 51 – completed transatlantic race and composite mast repairs prior to Fastnet Race
MARIQUITA – Fife 19 Metre Class – Solent racing and overwintering in marina
