22m Fast Patrol & Protection Boat Design

22m Fast Patrol & Protection

22m Fast Patrol & Protection

Designing vessels to meet the most demanding coastal military requirements in all sea states.

The Berthon 22m Fast Patrol vessel has been developed as the next-generation fast patrol boat for naval, coast guard and police operations. The Advanced Planing Monohull (APM) hullform is a development of the proven hullform of the UK RNLI’s new Shannon Class Fast Lifeboat. The APM hullform is a double-chine, warped, planing hullform with a fine entry and high freeboard forward, and wide stern sections with high form stability.

In combination with the high deadrise angle amidships, the result is a soft riding craft with minimal slamming and deck wetting enabling a high speed to be maintained in higher sea states. The propulsion machinery options include the state of the art Volvo Penta Integrated Propulsion System (IPS) which combines high speed and excellent handling with high efficiency.

If a shallow draft is required then a twin waterjet installation is also an option, or shafts and propellers can provide a conventional propulsion package.

Technical Specifications

Patrol & Protection Class

  • Information

    • The hull and deckhouse are of robust marine-grade aluminium alloy or advanced composite construction to DNV.GL High Speed Light Craft and Naval Surface Craft rules. The craft is built and certified to Full Classification by DNV.GL if required.
    • Unique, proven hull design for superior seakeeping in all sea states. Able to maintain high speeds in adverse sea conditions.
    • Reduced hull slamming and advanced shock mitigation seating ensures personnel remain fully capable throughout mission. Personnel can be sustained for long periods. Advanced wheelhouse climate control systems allow full operational deployment, even in extreme conditions. The vessel is equipped with a full mess area, galley, heads compartment and sleeping accommodation.
    • The design provides spacious accommodation for the crew of 6-8 personnel with a large bridge with excellent 360 degree visibility. An open fly-bridge is available as an option.
    • Flexible platform design which can be adapted for wide range of naval, coast guard and special forces roles. Ramped aft dock available for integrated daughter craft; either PWC (for speed) or RIB (for beach/rescue operations).
    • The combat system can range from light manually-operated weapons to sophisticated remote weapon station, lightweight missiles or torpedoes.
