How Berthon apprenticeships work

Berthon has a long history of training apprentices and also supporting the development of apprenticeships across the industry.  You will get the opportunity to benefit from a national and international award winning apprenticeship programme that will aid your progression.  As an apprentice you will ‘Earn as you Learn’ with competitive rates of pay as well as a notional dividend and a Berthon pension (both subject to qualification).

Berthon are right at the forefront of apprenticeship development for the marine industry and our Yard Manager, Keith Longman has chaired the employer groups that have built the new apprenticeship standards for Boatbuilding, Marine engineering and Marine electrical.

Based on the South Coast in Lymington, Berthon apprenticeships are the start of a fantastic career opportunity with the company.  You will receive on the job training working on a wide variety of prestige private and commercial vessels learning every aspect of your trade.  Alongside this you will gain internationally recognised qualifications with the support of our training provider who will deliver your vocational and classroom based learning following the new apprenticeship standards. .

Once you have become competent with all the relevant skills, knowledge and behaviours you will sit an end point assessment as verification that you have met the requirements of the apprenticeship standard. At this point you can gain professional recognition at Eng. Tech level.

If you feel you have the enthusiasm, drive and commitment to complete a 4-year apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in a top quality environment here at Berthon.

Business is GREAT Britain

The ‘Business is Great’ campaign is a clear demonstration of the UK Government’s support, advice and inspiration for growing businesses.

Berthon is involved through our apprenticeship programme and the apprenticeship expansion pilot where Government funding has allowed us to encourage our competitors to take on apprentices. Through this scheme we have placed or hired over 100 apprentices with a 97% graduation success rate.

FPB 78 #02 GREY WOLF II The story so far

A rare constant for these yachts is owner Peter Watson’s continuing offer to take a few lucky Berthon apprentices to some of our planet’s most inaccessible locations, as part of his crew. From the Patagonian Fjords, to the beaches of Bermuda and in this video French Polynesia, we are exceptionally grateful that Peter has enabled these once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
