Marine Engineer

BHG Service at Bucklers Hard have an immediate vacancy for a Marine Engineer experienced in inboard engines, gearboxes, stern drives and electrical work. An experience with Outboard Motors would be an advantage.

Requirements

  • Experience in planned maintenance, service and repair on a range of marine diesel inboard engines, propulsion systems and ancillary equipment
  • Fault diagnosis and rectification on a range of marine engines, propulsion systems and ancillary equipment
  • Experienced in engine removal, installation and line-ups
  • Excellent knowledge of all boat systems including controls, fuel, steering, domestic (fresh/ black/ grey water) etc.
  • Good working knowledge of marine electrical DC systems
  • Confident in commissioning, testing and driving all styles of small marine craft
  • Working knowledge on a range of outboards including Yamaha and Suzuki would be a distinct advantage

 

Person specification:

  • Marine engineering apprenticeship, qualifications and training
  • Proven industry track record
  • Self-starter with excellent time management
  • Motivated & hardworking with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work appropriately and confidently with autonomy or within a team to high standards
  • Excellent communication, reporting and recording skills
  • Excellent customer service skills with an approachable friendly manner.
  • Small boat handling experience with a minimum RYA Level 2 powerboat qualification
  • Clean driving license is essential for this role.

  • Pursuing sales leads
  • Fault finding and defect reporting
  • Annual maintenance for yacht owners
  • Selling and managing
  • new engine installations
  • new genset installations
  • new mechanical systems installations
  • new gearbox, coupling, shaft and prop installations
  • cutlass bearing changes
  • Liaising with manufacturers regarding specifications
  • Viewing boats to draw up technical specifications
  • Costing labour and materials
  • Quoting to customers
  • Following up customers after quoting
  • Obtaining signed orders & deposit payments
  • Scheduling work
  • Managing labour, materials & sub-contractors
  • Technical support of skilled labour
  • Training and support of apprentices
  • Sea trials and setting to work
  • Familiarisation of new equipment with the owner

  • Attendance at boat shows
  • Receiving and unpacking new boats at Berthon and elsewhere
  • Pre-delivery inspections
  • Sea trials and demonstrations
  • Customer handovers
  • Warranty claims
  • Arranging warranty repairs
  • Arranging customer extras:
    • costing labour and materials
    • quoting customers
    • following up customers after quoting
    • obtaining signed orders & deposit payments
    • scheduling work
    • managing labour, materials & sub-contractors
    • setting to work
    • familiarisation of new equipment with owner
    • invoicing & the collection of payment
  • Ongoing customer service for maintenance and repairs, and winter service

Experienced Valeter

Summary

Due to increasing demand Berthon has an immediate opening for experienced Cleaners to join our yacht valeting team at £9.00 per hour (above minimum wage) and the availability of overtime which is paid at time–and-a-half. Branded Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided along with a fantastic setting at Lymington Marina, just minutes walking distance from the High Street and Lymington Town railway station.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cutting GRP surfaces using power tools and applicable PPE
  • Polishing GRP & painted surfaces with appropriate products
  • Washing down various size sailing yachts and motorboats within the marina
  • Full detailed valeting using appropriate products to create a professional finish (COSHH)
  • Other associated tasks as needed

The role also involves helping to keep our newly refurbished washroom facilities clean and maintaining the ship yard works area
