Brokerage Administration Support – Part time miracle worker required…

…to work in a busy brokerage housekeeping our admin tip top. Covering holidays for 2 colleagues essential, a wide variety of roles to manage and flexible working is offered outside the cover periods. Conquering our paper mountain imperative also good computer skills, yacht knowledge a + and not essential.

Duties:

An important support role in a busy brokerage house – working as part of a small tightly knit team. The successful applicant will work closely with the Listings Manager on all aspects of listings and marketing. Good administration skills and the ability to keep up with a mountain of paperwork are key.

Administration:

  • Administration cover supporting members of the Sales team and covering for the MD’s PA.
  • Ability to act with discretion and confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to organise travel arrangements for the MD and all Brokers.
  • Being in charge of stationery orders.
  • Accurate typing, administration and filing skills and the ability to raise invoices and manage all the paperwork around yacht sales.

Listings:

  • Working closely with the Listings Manager to assemble yacht specs for the marketing of the brokerage yachts.
  • Uploading yacht specs to various websites accurately.
  • Working with the internal database system for adding clients and yachts.
  • Understanding social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) as well as the company website, Google analytics, etc. and making changes as an Administrator.

Reception:

  • Professional and polite manner at all times, greeting clients or answering the phone.
  • Responsibility for the reception area, making sure all publications are sufficiently stocked and the area is kept clean and tidy.
  • Understanding of all administrative duties including franking of the post, taking payments over the phone etc.

Other:

  • Contributions and assistance with writing and presentation of industry e-news articles and marketing blogs.
  • Experience with EXCEL to maintain marketing budget spreadsheet/ track incoming invoices.
  • Ensure marketing copy deadlines are met in good time.

Junior Project Manager

Marine Electrical / Electronics Engineer

Due to expansion and increasing demand for our high quality services, Berthon has an immediate position available for an experienced Marine Electrical/ Electronic Engineer to join our highly skilled team on marina & refit based projects.

Knowledge and skills

You must be Apprenticeship time served and have the following attributes:

  • Experienced in electronic installations and service support of market leaders including
    • Raymarine – the world leader in marine electronics for recreational boating and light commercial marine markets
    • Garmin – the leading GPS manufacturer, number two in the marine market
    • Navico – Distributor of the B&G, Simrad, Lowrance, Northstar, Eagle & MX Marine Brands.
  • Excellent diagnostic skills with the ability to work to exacting standards
  • In depth knowledge of Marine electrical DC and AC systems.

Candidates must be self starters, motivated, reliable have a good eye for detail and proven track record in the leisure or commercial marine industry

Main Duties and responsibilities

  • A wide range of electronic and electrical installations.
  • Fault diagnosis on a range of engine electronic management systems and navigation systems.
  • Commissioning, dock side trials, sea trials, collection and delivery trips.
  • Able to work on own initiative to provide support to customers.
  • A wide range of instrument and wiring upgrades.
  • Working in a team with all trades to produce a quality product to budget and on time.

Berthon Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are now closed for 2017. We will be inviting applications for a September 2018 start in January 2018.

At our recently refurbished Lymington boatyard facilities, the dedication to providing the best service is key to the yard’s success. Berthon’s apprenticeship scheme has been established for more than 100 years, and many of our craftsmen have been with us throughout their working life.

The Selection Process

The first stage of the selection process is to complete an Application form.

In order to help your application we recommend you:

  • Gather evidence of your interest in the Marine industry.
  • Gather evidence of any relevant experience you have already gained in your chosen discipline.
  • Gain work experience in the trade you want to apply for either here at Berthon or in another manufacturing environment.
  • Research Berthon and the marine industry and consider why you want an Apprenticeship with Berthon.
  • Stand out from the crowd – the more evidence you can gather the stronger your application will become, this is your opportunity to sell your attributes.

If selected, you will attend an assessment, trade test and interview at our training provider Brockenhurst College. Successful applicants at this stage will then be invited to Berthon for a formal interview and tour of the facilities.

Pre-Requisites for a Berthon Apprenticeship:

Painter/Sprayer

If you are applying to be a Painter/Sprayer you MUST have:

  • 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at A*- D
  • Have a good eye for attention to detail
  • Initiative and a genuine interest in producing a top quality product

The training you will receive:

  • City & Guilds Level 2 & 3 in Marine Engineering (Paint Finishing)
  • NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Marine Engineering (Paint Finishing)
  • Functional Skills such as English, Maths, ICT and Communication
  • Various Berthon courses such as Health & Safety, City & Guilds spraying courses held at Berthon, LEAN manufacturing as applicable

Shipwright (Boat Builder)

If you are applying to be a Shipwright (Boat Builder) you MUST have:

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at A*- C to include Maths and English plus Resistant Materials or relevant science subject
  • Have a good eye for attention to detail
  • Evidence of working with wood, either at school or as a hobby

The training you will receive:

  • City & Guilds Level 2 & 3 in Marine Engineering (Boatbuilding)
  • NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Marine Engineering (Boatbuilding)
  • Functional Skills such as English, Maths, ICT and Communication
  • Various Berthon courses such as Health & Safety, product specific technical training including GRP laminating courses at Southampton Solent University and LEAN manufacturing as applicable
