Marina Manager

Summary

Manage team of staff in marina dock office with overall responsibility for providing and efficient, effective, polite and friendly service to clients and ensuring a smooth running of the day-to-day activities in the marina office.

Reports to

  • Managing Director

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Manage safety, cleanliness and tidiness of the marina, car park and boat storage ashore on a daily basis.
  • Ensure compliance to statutory requirements, (H&S, Water , and fire regulations, etc)
  • Maximise revenues from overnight and longer term casual visitors
  • Manage metering of electricity to boats, reading, invoicing and record keeping
  • Develop and implement new Marina Office procedures, work processes and systems, with Management approval, which will help to improve the efficiency and smooth running of Lymington Marina
  • Ensure that Senior Dockmasters adhere to their Ownership Tasks, as well as Daily Tasks
  • Primary point of contact and liaison between the dock office, senior management, Berthon International and Berthon Boat Company
  • Ensure correct operation/maintenance of systems including car park barriers, CCTV, Heating, hot water and sewage systems
  • Ensure safe operation, restocking, inspection and maintenance of the refueller barge 
  • Liaise with external agencies in cases of emergency (Ambulance, Fire, Police, RNLI, HM, EA) 
  • Liaison with Managing Director’s office to take berth enquiries, carry out tours, secure new annual berth holders and allocate berths
  • Ensure that the dock office staff are up to date with current boatyard projects activities
  • Organise staff rota, manage night watchman, approve holiday time and manage sick leave.
  • Oversee recruitment and training of new/temporary/seasonal staff
  • Stay abreast of market trends and new equipment/technology within the marina/boating leisure industry
  • Monitor and record competitor pricing and service development

Brokerage Assistant

Working closing with the MD of the Sales Division on all aspects of the sales and marketing process.   Following deals in progress, working on the preparation of yacht particulars and the marketing of these with the Listing Manager together with the Berthon social media offering.   There will be involvement with marketing promotions – magazines, boat shows, blogs and support for overseas offices as well as new yacht promotions.  Offering administrative support on filing, registration, VAT and title matters.

Sales Process and supporting the MD of Sales

  • Working on sales files and marketing for the Sales Division as a whole in order to provide support for the MD in her role
  • Shadowing her on sales files and negotiations
  • Learning the registration process
  • Working on the VAT treatment of yachts at Lymington HQ
  • Working on marketing for individual yachts, new yachts and on various Berthon promotions

Listings and Marketing

Supporting the Listings Manager in all aspects of his role and covering during holiday periods. The successful applicant will gain a thorough knowledge of the listing and marketing process for all brokerage listings and how to offer support to new yacht sales also.

Tasks will include:

  • Uploading yacht specifications to various websites accurately
  • Working with the internal database system for adding clients and yachts
  • Understanding social media platforms (Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube) as well as the company website, Google analytics etc.  

Reception

  • As needed to work on Reception providing cover with a professional and polite manner greeting clients and answering the telephone
  • Responsibility for the Reception area, making sure all publications are sufficiently stocked and the area is kept clean and tidy
  • Understanding of all administrations duties including franking of post, taking payment over the telephone and so on.

Berthon’s apprenticeship scheme has been established for more than 100 years, and many of our craftsmen have been with us throughout their working life.

The Selection Process

The first stage of the selection process is to complete an Application form.

In order to help your application we recommend you:

  • Gather evidence of your interest in the Marine industry.
  • Gather evidence of any relevant experience you have already gained in your chosen discipline.
  • Gain work experience in the trade you want to apply for either here at Berthon or in another manufacturing environment.
  • Research Berthon and the marine industry and consider why you want an Apprenticeship with Berthon.
  • Stand out from the crowd – the more evidence you can gather the stronger your application will become, this is your opportunity to sell your attributes.

If selected, you will attend an assessment, trade test and interview at our training provider Brockenhurst College. Successful applicants at this stage will then be invited to Berthon for a formal interview and tour of the facilities.

If you are applying to be a Painter/Sprayer you MUST have:

  • 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at A*- D

Summary

Due to increasing demand Berthon has an immediate opening for experienced Cleaners to join our yacht valeting team at £9.00 per hour (above minimum wage) and the availability of overtime which is paid at time–and-a-half. Branded Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided along with a fantastic setting at Lymington Marina, just minutes walking distance from the High Street and Lymington Town railway station.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cutting GRP surfaces using power tools and applicable PPE
  • Polishing GRP & painted surfaces with appropriate products

  • Other associated tasks as needed

The role also involves helping to keep our newly refurbished washroom facilities clean and maintaining the ship yard works area
