Seasonal Dockmaster

Working as part of a team to provide an efficient and effective service to all clients of Berthon Boat Company and Lymington Marina.

Berthon, Lymington Marina are looking for a Seasonal Part-Time Dockmaster to work from March to September inclusive. The following attributes are essential for this role:

  • Computer literacy using a variety of software including E-harbours and Epicor (ERP system) – training can be provided.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Confident and personable with a good telephone manner.
  • Excellent levels of customer service, both written and verbal.
  • A flexible approach to working, including a shift rota (including evening, weekend and public holiday shift patterns)
  • Knowledge of the leisure marine industry
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and recording capabilities
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and organise self and juniors in a fast moving environment

 

The following attributes are desirable for this role:

  • Practical skills to carry out basic maintenance tasks.

The following qualifications are desirable, but not essential for this role:

  • First Aid.
  • VHF Radio license.
  • Powerboat Level 2.

Main Duties and responsibilities:

  • Taking / recording berth bookings.
  • Planning and allocating appropriate berths using e-harbours.
  • Collecting a range of payments via EPOS systems.
  • Holding and issuing keys in accordance with company policy.
  • Carrying out a range of marina checks as directed by Senior Dockmasters and Marina Manager. Ensuring boats are adequately secured and safe.
  • Carry out a detailed audit of boats within the Marina.
  • Ensuring the safety of clients, staff and visitors on the marina.
  • Operation of CCTV and IT systems inc WiFi.
  • Retailing fuel and oil using correct and safe procedures, adhering to all HSE regulations.
  • Sales of ice and laundry tokens.
  • Ensuring all facilities remain in serviceable condition e.g. washrooms, laundry, car park barriers.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and secure working environment.
  • Liaising with other in-house departments concerning boat movements.
  • Event support where required.

Administrator, Yacht Maintenance & Repair

Reports to: Head of YMR Department / Director

  • Provide clerical and administrative support within YMR office
  • Administer boat moving, storage, dry sailing

Roles and Responsibilities:

Provide clerical and administrative support within YMR & Pit Stop office

  • Support the YMR managers with good administration
  • Providing general assistance to YMR managers
  • Check job numbers on time sheets
  • Update job status on Epicor
  • Filing of job paperwork, fault reports, etc
  • Electronic filing including photos
  • Oil analysis reports: paperwork, dissemination on return, and filing
  • Coordinate layup & commissioning work to ensure customer requirements are achieved
  • Progress meetings (currently Tuesday and Thursday)
  • Provide back-up to the buyer
  • Help YMR managers with materials pricing for estimates or jobs
  • Assist with “out of the ordinary” materials procurement
  • Issue sub-contractors passes to approved contractors with in-date insurance
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure invoicing complete when boats are leaving or sold

  • Attendance at boat shows
  • Receiving and unpacking new boats at Berthon and elsewhere
  • Pre-delivery inspections
  • Sea trials and demonstrations
  • Customer handovers
  • Warranty claims
  • Arranging warranty repairs
  • Arranging customer extras:
    • costing labour and materials
    • quoting customers
    • following up customers after quoting
    • obtaining signed orders & deposit payments
    • scheduling work
    • managing labour, materials & sub-contractors
    • setting to work
    • familiarisation of new equipment with owner
    • invoicing & the collection of payment
  • Ongoing customer service for maintenance and repairs, and winter service

Berthon is a family business, and we have no bank debt, investing continuously in our plant, machinery & infrastructure from our retained profits, not by borrowing. We own our 10 acre site and 8 acres of the river.

Experienced Valeter

Summary

Due to increasing demand Berthon has an immediate opening for experienced Cleaners to join our yacht valeting team at £9.00 per hour (above minimum wage) and the availability of overtime which is paid at time–and-a-half. Branded Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided along with a fantastic setting at Lymington Marina, just minutes walking distance from the High Street and Lymington Town railway station.

  • Cutting GRP surfaces using power tools and applicable PPE
  • Polishing GRP & painted surfaces with appropriate products

  • Full detailed valeting using appropriate products to create a professional finish (COSHH)
  • Other associated tasks as needed

The role also involves helping to keep our newly refurbished washroom facilities clean and maintaining the ship yard works area
