Berthon does Palma!

May 30, 2014

Parma Superyacht Show 2014

The Palma Superyacht Show had its second anniversary from the 30th April to 4th May this year, and Berthon exhibited at the event for the first time.   Unlike other brokerage shows in the Mediterranean although both sailing and motor yachts are on display, the sailing yacht element is the prominent one, which makes it the Show to attend to see a large conglomeration of sailing yachts from 70’ to 150’ available for sale in the Mediterranean. Sponsored by MYBA the broker’s Mediterranean association, numbers of yachts on display were up by around a third from the first year, and we predict that this event is here to stay and grow.

Because the Show is held in association with the Palma Boat Show, all the infrastructure is in place for a professional and well-arranged Show and we hope that next year we will see more of our clients at the Show as it becomes better known.

Mediterranean hours were a shock to the system at Berthon with the Show opening at 11.00 and closing at 20.00 with a late night on Friday until 23.00!   On the team from the UK were – Sue Grant, Alan McIlroy, Ben Cooper and Hugh Rayner.  We also had Jennifer Stewart from Berthon USA at the Show for the duration.

We were fortunate to have 2 great yachts on Show:–

Shipman 80’ – PAULA ROSA – Yacht now Sold

Paula Rosa

From 2008 this yacht is in sparkling condition, her crew are absolute magicians and her owner is massively diligent about ongoing maintenance – this year has seen standard overhaul of her drop keel and also the careful preparation of her for her new owner.   The thing above all about PAULA ROSA is that SHE IS FAST – a fabulous sailing yacht with J&J magic and built of carbon by Shipman, the structural engineering is superb – an overused phrase but she really is as light as a feather yet as strong as an ox.  Her interior is light and airy.  Another massively clever thing about her is her surprise deck saloon.  Her exterior belies this completely and walking into the saloon the 360 degree vision is a real surprise.   The deck saloon and cockpit merge as one to make a superb living, entertaining and sailing space for her owner and his guests.

Sailing her shorthanded is simple and her deck layout is well thought out.  Her current owner has modified, updated and improved the yacht to ensure that he (and now her new owner) will get the very best out of her.  A performance dinghy and keelboat sailor, he does not compromise on performance and he has loved the way that she sails.

PAULA ROSA is available in Palma de Mallorca to see, touch and write a cheque for Shipman 80 – Paula Rosa -SOLD

Sweden 70 – KAVENGA

Sweden 70

Launched in 1997, she is part of a rather exclusive sisterhood as only 3 of these yachts were built by Sweden Yachts and she was the last to launch.  Her ketch rig is charming and her interior is executed in warm mahogany in classic Sweden Yachts style.  KAVENGA is in her original ownership and she has been skipper maintained from the get go.   She is in sparkling shape and it is hard to believe that she really is from 1997.  She lived here at Berthon for a number of years before departing for the sunshine and she has been used for easy, family sailing and she has definitely never been raced, rallied or put away remotely wet.

Earlier this year, KAVENGA was fully surveyed and a copy of this is available on request.  In common with every yacht afloat there were some details to attend to and the significant ones were rectified along with normal Spring fit out.

KAVENGA is one of the prettiest yachts on the planet and turns heads without effort.   We are also offering her berth in the Club de Mar in Palma harbour by separate arrangement – it’s a fab place to keep a yacht.

KAVENGA is available to see and be smitten by in Palma de Mallorca Sweden 70KAVENGA

During the Palma Super Yacht Show, there was a showing of Nautor Swans, at Port de Mallorca – just a short cab or RIB ride from the main Show.  In the line-up, was the Swan 53 MERI BALLETTI a new listing for Berthon which gleams:–

Swan 54

MERI BALLETTI was hatched in 2007 and has the perfect specification, layout and deck layout for comfortable, fast and rewarding family sailing.  She has managed this perfectly with her current, original owners, and has been skipper maintained from the egg.  With her stunning blue livery, Nautor unmistakable build quality and enormous spec, she is a great buy and will be remaining in Palma de Mallorca this summer and available for inspections.

The Swan 53 combines all the normal Nautor Swan attributes with a level of usability for family sailing that is rare.  Of course, should you choose to regatta it, then she will shine too. Swan 53MERI BALLETTI
