Cable Bay, a 27m Tri swath (Trimaran) Wind Farm Support Vessel arrived at Berthon earlier this week. The vessel is built by Austal who state that, ‘The design combines the seakeeping and fuel efficiency benefits of a [Austal’s] trimaran hull configuration with a small waterplane area at rest, to deliver low vessel motions both in transit and when alongside turbines. This enables wind farm personnel to be successfully transferred in considerably higher sea states than is practical with catamarans of similar size. As well as minimising seasickness amongst personnel and providing safer transfer conditions, the new designs enhanced seakeeping performance can improve the economics of offshore wind farms. The stable hull configuration enables the safe transport of personnel and more efficient servicing of offshore wind turbines. The vessel’s motion, both in transit and when alongside turbines, is stabilised’.
The boat is currently stationed at Berthon’s Lymington Marina and for sale through Berthon International. Berthon Boat Co Ltd are minding Cable Bay for her owners with a service and maintenance schedule being prepared.
