Discovery 55′ – KALANDIA’s Progress

June 28, 2013

The inspiration for a blue water cruising yacht came from owner Bill Peach’s wish to do some extended sailing and exploring to fill in the gaps of his experience in the Merchant Navy when as he put it – “I travelled the world but didn’t see very much of it!” He and Liz decided that the best way to approach the problem was to have a yacht built from scratch. They also had a wish list:

• A pilot house.
• The ability to navigate whilst inside.
• A layout that was spacious and airy for them and 4 guests.
• A British built yacht.
• A build that they could go and see through the construction period so that they were totally clear about how she worked so that maintenance could be easily accomplished during their voyage. Also so that small changes to refine the design could be made during build.

After a lot of research, Discovery hull #55/027 was selected and the adventure began…

The build was a positive experience, working with the Discovery team on the build and hatch of 55/027 KALANDIA and in 2009 she was ready to take on board her crew and begin the adventure, slipping her lines at her home port of Portsmouth and heading out to find the sea.

She and her crew spent a glorious summer crossing Biscay and slipping into the West Mediterranean, stopping in Portugal, Gibraltar, the Balearics and many points in-between. She and the crew then joined the ARC fleet in Las Palmas for a cracking sail across the Atlantic to St Lucia and Christmas in the Sunshine. A Caribbean cruise followed, with the summer of 2010 being spent on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. An iconic cruising ground that is a must for anyone with the time to explore it. The following year KALANDIA made her way to Bermuda and then trickled back across the Atlantic arriving back in Blighty in June 2011. Plymouth was her first port of call.

KALANDIA had performed superbly in all respects and had become a well loved member of, and magic carpet for, the Peach family. After some local cruising and a pitstop to sort out any après cruise niggles, Bill and Liz moved ashore (or rather into a very smart caravan) to start their new adventure. KALANDIA has been replaced by a fabulous new build eco house.

Without the time for more adventures, KALANDIA has reluctantly been put onto the market and is now available for her next family and new adventures.

With a very full specification for Seven Seas sailing, KALANDIA is shining from truck to keel. Contact us for all the griff –
