Berthon has recently celebrated its successful certification for OHSAS18001:2007 which is an internationally recognised standard which exists to help all kinds of organisations put in place demonstrably sound occupational health and safety performance. Having this rigorous policy and approach ensures Berthon protects its employees. MD, Brian May said ‘Our employees are at the heart of our business and we take our responsibilities to ensure their wellbeing and protection very seriously. This commitment extends to Berthon’s multi-award-winning apprenticeship programme where apprentices quickly buy into our safety culture, company values and desire for continuous improvement. Young people are the future of our company and we also work closely with industry and government to address the wider marine industry skills gap.’
Berthon became the UK’s first combined Marina and Boatyard* to be certified to ISO14001:2015 in March 2017 which specifies the requirements for a robust environmental management system to enhance its environmental performance contributing to the pillar of sustainability; the company also successfully transitioned to ISO9001:2015 the new quality management standard at the same time, focussing on the seven key principles of customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, continuous improvement, evidence-based decision making and relationship management.
Yard Manager, Keith Longman, in charge of Berthon’s IMS (integrated management system) added ’It is our vision to be regarded by boat owners as the best marina and boatyard in the UK for boat building, refitting & servicing and recognised by the wider community as a company that respects and cares for its customers, its employees and the environment; as a result we strive to meet very high standards of quality and service that our customers demand and expect from us whilst at the same time conducting our activities in a manner that protects our employees and the environment.
OHSAS18001:2007, ISO14001:2015 and ISO9001:2015 certification provides confidence to interested parties as to the consistency, effectiveness and efficiency of Berthon’s approach to health, safety, quality, and the environment and provides increased credibility and competitiveness.
