Hailing from 2007, this is a seriously competent semi-displacement cruising motor-yacht. Owned from new, and specifically equipped for the Mediterranean ( where she has spent her life ), this Skagen 50 has a very well-conceived lay-out, combining three cabins with two decent shower/heads compartments, an airy, light and level saloon and galley space, with a broad, long fly deck sitting atop of her superstructure.
“CALLISTO J” benefits from full air-conditioning, upgrade generator, water-maker and washer-drier – with a Williams jet tender to see you safely ashore. Moreover, for those planning to run their own yachts as a couple, she has the super-useful Yacht Controller wireless remote for the throttles and the bow and stern thrusters – making docking a real joy and taking the stress out of tight marina confines.
In terms of build and sea-keeping – the Skagen 50 receives an A category rating. Her hull is soft through a head-sea, stable at low revs, and her pronounced keel allows her to track easily downwind and down-weather. Another feature from her fastidious Owner’s tick-list is the Aqua-Drive anti-vibration coupling: transmitting noise and resonance away from her drive-train and thus reducing sound and reverberation under way. Little things, but they make spending time on board so much more pleasant and less tiring on a longer passage.
As MBY noted, “With its fine engineering, build quality, deep keel, good mooring gear and its free-flowing interior and deck layout, Seaway’s new Skagen 50 excels as a tri-cabin, twin heads, long-distance cruising boat. It is a serious offshore cruiser and weekend party boat – as an all-rounder, it’s very impressive.”
