October 6, 2015
September is an exciting month for Berthon – with 4 boat shows in 3 countries, running virtually concurrently. It is a real test of market conditions and highlights very clearly the market segments which are out, and those which are in.
This year was no exception with differing turnouts, yachts on offer and of course very different weather conditions!
A glamourous and well organised show on the Cote d’Azur, where we have exhibited for many years, and there is the opportunity to see a wide range of both sailing and motor yachts from around the world. It is a great location in terms of weather, international input and ambiance. Also found at Cannes is a well-developed brokerage show for yachts of over 24 metres, with access is gained via a very smart navette service that runs throughout the show.
This year our offering of Windys was again a crowd pleaser. The show seemed quieter in terms of numbers but those of our clients – past, present and future were definitely at the show with their cheque books. We sold a 29 Coho and a 39 Camira from the stand and we are working on a number of leads which we hope will add to the Windy Boats in France over the coming months. Others have also commented on what appeared to be lower footfall, but better clientele.
As ever, our friends from Windy were with us and of course, the sun shone…

Our 21st iteration of this brokerage event at Mission Control in Lymington had a great fleet for this coming of age show, with yachts going under offer during the event – which is something we’ve not seen for a number of years. The fleet is continuing to attract a lot of interest and we are busy with viewings whilst yacht purchasers make plans and thoroughly research the market, hoping to be with yacht for the 2016 season. Therefore our pipeline is looking a little better than last year.
As for the weather – we certainly had plenty of it!
We were busy with both our Windy stand, and the Berthon Group ashore. Thank you to everyone who visited the latter. We hope that our coffee making skills were up to the mark.
On the water the Windy marque continues to build momentum, following an extremely strong 2015 season. The star of the year, by far, has been the 29 Coho – with 9 of these great sports boats delivered to UK clients, and further pre-orders placed during the show for 2016 delivery.
The success of the 29 can perhaps be contributed to noticeable resurgence of clients returning to the market with second homes (either here in the UK or overseas), looking for a simple, but quality sports boat to use when on holiday.
The 45 Chinook enjoyed excellent feedback, and we agreed an order for a new 46 Chinook which is due to be launched at the Düsseldorf Show in early 2016.
The Draco 22RS had her first outing and drew interest. She is the baby sister to the original 27RS, which won the 2015 European Power Boat of the Year award.
An important show for any UK yacht sales organisation; although rain may have stopped play a few times, it continues to be a great place for yacht sales.

For once, the weather gods were kind and it was wall to wall sunshine for the whole show. The crowds were out in force, and our showing of the Euphoria 54 and Azuree 46 attracting a lot of attention as we think they should.
A new launch in the USA, we have been busy with these epic sailing yachts over the past couple of months and this has paid dividends! We are now negotiating contracts on both models.
For Berthon USA the fun continues in Annapolis from October 8th to 12th.
The Azuree and Euphoria will be on display there also, so if you are USA East Coast based and missed them at Newport, please save the days and we will see you next month.
