November 29, 2016
November in Amsterdam sees approximately 1,400 exhibitors and many, many more visitors arrive at the largest marine equipment trade fair (METS) in the world, taking place at the RAI Exhibition Centre. Networking events for the yachting industry don’t come any bigger or get any better than this. The buzz in the exhibition spaces was palpable – and audible! This year, Berthon were in attendance with a specially designed stand dedicated to promoting our Superyacht Tender Support services, taking pride of place.
Berthon Boat Company’s Managing Director, Brian May, was also in attendance having been invited to be a guest speaker at the ICOMIA conference for marina operators.
Berthon wins at the IBI 2016 Boat Builder Awards
A highlight of the show was Berthon’s award win for ‘Best Apprenticeship and Training Scheme’. Held in Amsterdam on Thursday 17th November as part of METS, the awards are truly international with those shortlisted and winning from the UK, USA, Finland, Poland, Italy, France and Holland. Sunseeker and Pendennis, both received honourable mentions in the Best Apprenticeship and Training Scheme Award category with other industry giants such as Azimut/Benetti, Lewmar, Beneteau, Sea Ray, Rolls Royce, and Volvo Penta, amongst others, headlining other categories. Brian was singled out by the judges for his ‘commitment and passion’ in driving the Berthon apprentice scheme as well as his overall contribution to the promotion of the UK’s boatbuilding industry.
The Berthon Stand
At Berthon’s stand, a showreel was run on a loop on a 50” flat screen to showcase the yard and its specialist capability. This can be viewed on our Superyacht Tender Support page. As METS is a paperless show, we also prepared USBs loaded with information about what we do. These were then given to prospective clients and contacts. With 4GB of memory and an attractive design, they proved to be a very popular gift as well as a useful marketing tool.
His Excellency Sir Geoffrey Adams, British Ambassador to the Netherlands Visits the Berthon Stand
A highlight of the second day was an official visit to the stand by His Excellency Sir Geoffrey Adams, British Ambassador to the Netherlands. This was arranged under the auspices of a British Marine incentive to support the UK marine industry in its aim to export products to Europe, notably Holland. The Berthon Superyacht Tender Support business is engaging with several well-known shipyards in Holland regarding our specialised service. The Ambassador and the Department for International Trade / UKTI team, led by Trade Advisor Michiel Hendrickx, have pledged their support in our endeavour.
Over the three days, many people visited the Berthon stand and numerous contacts were made. Key personnel visiting included yard managers and yacht captains, all of whom have stated their intent to use the Berthon Shipyard services in the future.
Look out for the Berthon stand in the Super Yacht Pavilion in 2017!
