The Shipyard – Lymington’s Freshest Gastronomic Experience

Two Lymington locals, fisherman Nigel and chef Liam, have united to give Lymington the opportunity to buy fresh local fish and have it cooked for them if they prefer. The idea is to let the fish speak for itself, to serve it simply and classically but in a modern, friendly and casual setting. Located within easy walking distance across the Berthon Boatyard, or from the Bath Road, the grand opening will be on the 8th July.

Local Fisherman Nigel Hockley will be opening THE SHIPYARD – Fish Market, where people and businesses will be able to purchase his fish, and other products, for day-to-day buys, functions and restaurant supplies. Chef’s Paul Jenkins and Liam Brennan will be cooking the fish in THE SHIPYARD – Bar and Kitchen.

The emphasis will be on ‘catch of the day’ fare, cooked simply and served with seasonal produce. The cooking style will be mostly European. Paul has a strong background in this area; working at places like RAC private members club, J Sheeky’s, The Ivy, The Pig and various places in the Carribean and Australia. Liam has an extensive knowledge of food and wine gained whilst travelling and working in Europe. He also has great culinary insight into local New Forest cuisine.

The restaurant’s other aim is to be as environmentally friendly as possible. They will attempt to achieve this by:

  • Using reclaimed wood from boats for the bar etc.
  • Using as many local suppliers as possible to reduce mileage.
  • Using recyclable paper for menus, napkins, coffee cups etc.
  • Using uniforms made by VIVANAUT, who are making their aprons out of old boat sails. They are also using organic cotton tops.
