The Berthon Boat Co was recently featured in the BBC’s Great British Railway Journeys. If you have never seen the programme it’s where Michael Portillio follows Bradshaw’s Railway guides around Great Britain, visiting wonderful places of interest.
In the recent episode they visited Lymington and, more specifically, Berthon where Portillo met with MD Brian May to talk about the Rev E.L. Berthon’s lifesaving invention that prompted the start of the Berthon Boat Co. back in 1877.
In the programme Brian invited Michael to help build an original Berthon Collapsible Boat, the vessel that would start a long history is lifesaving vessels being built by Berthon, with the most recent being the Shannon class Lifeboat for the RNLI.
