August was another very busy month in our Big Blue Sheds, and for the Yacht Maintenance & Repair team at Berthon. Below is a snapshot of some of the projects that we have been working on:-
LYDIA – Bowman 48 DS ex. MI A KON DA – sold by Berthon International yacht sales to her new owner. She is nearing the end of an extensive refit and fully prepared for some serious mile munching. Her sojourn in the Blue Sheds has seen a plethora of tasks accomplished, with some of the stand out ones listed below.
LYDIA now looks the business and is ready for new adventure with her new owners. Everyone at Berthon would like to wish her fair winds and good sailing as she leaves us on the 15th September, heading for the Bay of Biscay and beyond.
GREY WOLF, the epic FPB 64’, arrived for her celebration party this month – of which you can read more in the Berthon blog. She took the opportunity to have a Berthon wash and brush up. She was lifted for a pressure wash beneath the waterline and wash down above the waterline so that she looked sparkling for her party. After 12,000 nautical miles from New Zealand to Lymington via the Panama Canal, many yachts would be ready for a refit at the least. However for GREYWOLF a pressure wash, oil change and some stainless steel cleaning was the sum total of the work needed. She has now left us for a cruise to the Mediterranean to catch the last of the season…..
JEWEL – Mainsail 618 is currently in the Blue Sheds having her deck replaced. The old deck has been removed and the new deck is currently being laid. While this is happening her mast is being serviced and the rod rigging NDT (Non-destructive testing) dye tested on site to ensure that all is in perfect order. We will have more on Jewel in a future blog when the work is completed.
DAYDREAM BELIEVER – Southerly 49 has had her keel sand blasted whilst on site and new copper coat antifoul applied, making her look the business. She’s ready for the Berthon Collection in September.
BALLYTRIM – Swan 46 has just arrived at Berthon for the Collection from the Mediterranean, she has been serviced, decommissioned (read about the Berthon Layup and Decommissioning process) and laid-up ashore during which we have taken the opportunity to have some very minor repairs undertaken; lifting ashore this week, she is now gleaming and ready for Collection 20.
RNLI – SHANNON Class lifeboat, Hull 7 is in the final stages of fit out before she hits the water for sea trials. Hull 6 is completing her final sea trials before being officially handed over to the RNLI. We also have Hull 8 in post paint fit out, and Hull 9 is being painted in our state of the art paint spraying facility, whilst Hull 10 is in the initial stages of fitting out before moving to the spraying booth.
In our paint spraying facility this month we have completed a very funky repaint to a Windy 28 in Awlgrip SE Pearl Mouse Grey Metallic. As seen in the photograph above the whole topsides from the waterline to the rubbing rail are now painted in this splendid colour. This 10 year old Windy is now looking exceptionally shiny and as if she just came out of the box.
This Swan 44 has had topsides repairs and patches repainted after some shocking fender wear damage sustained whilst on her mooring in Spain. She’s also had a new stern seal and a refrigeration system fitted along with some other necessary upgrades.
