When seasoned yacht racer Eamon Crosbie was searching for his next sailing adventure, he turned to Berthon for their help.
Eamon bought a Discovery 55’, hull number 003, from us and set about refitting and refurbishing her at Berthon so that she could be ready for the next sailing adventure. Eamon is the first to admit that he’s more used to wearing a dry suit and eating freeze dried food whilst sailing, rather than having the creature comforts that come with the type of blue water cruiser he opted for this time round. Our relationship with Eamon began in 2009 when we sold his Ker 32’, Voodoo Chile, in Singapore; a boat that had seen him compete in, and win, the Irish and British Nationals, Round Ireland, Commodores Cup and 4th in the Fastnet. Eamon is a seasoned racer by anyone’s standards.
With our blue water cruising experience, and numerous suitable yachts available on-site at our Lymington HQ, it wasn’t long before Eamon opted for the Discovery 55′. Once the initial sea trial, surveyor report and paperwork had been completed, she was renamed PAMELA and a meeting was set between Eamon and our Manager of Refit & Repair, Robin Milledge. At the meeting, the surveyor’s report was reviewed along with the long and short term plans for the yacht. Based on Eamon’s requirements, we created a project plan for what would be an extensive refit.
Eamon talks at length about the refit of PAMELA below.
