The Shipman 63 yachts were conceived to be a yacht that could combine both the performance and connected feeling of a thoroughbred race yacht with the comfort, sea kindliness and safety of a bluewater cruising yacht. A rather difficult formula to balance on the face of it, but by using careful design and exotic materials, displacement could be kept low without affecting stability.
In fact, the advent of carbon masts, composite standing rigging and pre preg carbon in the hull adds just as much value to the cruising fraternity as the racing. Stability is a very important factor irrespective of what style of sailing you choose. Reducing weight aloft not only increases righting moment during sailing, but makes the yacht much more ‘planted’ while at anchor, or motoring.
By achieving this by reducing displacement, consequentially there are many spin offs with a more efficient and less fuel hungry yacht.
Not forgetting the sheer pleasure of sailing a thoroughbred, ticking off 300 mile days and regularly cruising in double figures, and the faff of reefing being a distant memory.
In truly outstanding condition, Shipman 63 LUNNA A has been refreshed under her current ownership for the 2019 ARC race and cruising in the Caribbean and due back to the Mediterranean in April 2020.

She is a very high specification Shipman 63, with EC6 carbon rigging, carbon spars and a more open plan interior than the standard Shipman – finished in a painted bright and airy style, with beautiful smoky blue weave highlights.

Her USP is three full en-suite cabins as opposed to the standard yacht with only two heads.
The forward sail locker has been well fitted out to be the Captain’s cabin, complete with heads and plenty of storage and bunks for two.
A bright and airy open plan saloon, with newly fitted seating plan enables eight to sit comfortably alongside the well-proportioned galley with island unit for storage and cleverly housing the yachts electrical heart.
Coupled with the excellent Shipman DNA of pre-preg carbon build, excellent deck layout for shorthanded sailing, it is no wonder these yachts are very well sought after for fast, safe and comfortable passage making and the unique panoramic deckhouse saloon windows.
