The Norwegian beauty that is, Windy 43 Typhoon Hardtop NIMBUS

January 24, 2019

Windy Boats have long enjoyed an exceptional following for the top-quality construction, innovative features and sublime performance of their sports-cruisers. Using a tried and tested Hans Jorgen Johnsen hull, the 43 Typhoon was built in Norway, offering a hand-built luxury interior, with two cabins and two heads, a vast well-protected cockpit and a lean, long-legged gait to eat up the sea miles.

Windy 43 Typhoon “NIMBUS” is a beautifully presented 2002 model in hardtop guise, with a powered fabric sunroof to open up that huge cockpit to the sun, whilst affording protection when required. She is still in her first Ownership, with plenty of service history on her smooth TAMD74 Volvo Penta diesels (she will make 38 knots with a clean bottom!), upgraded navigational kit, reverse-cycle air-conditioning and generator, this is a fantastic fast cruiser for exploring in comfort.

She has enjoyed the sunny life from her Owner’s base in Port Grimaud to the Golfe du St Tropez, and has proved her worth as the dependable family shuttle – cutting through the Mediterranean with ease. She has thus been largely used as a day-boat, and her interior condition is stunning for a grown teenage, with original Windy bedlinen and her saloon leather all being presented in pristine condition. The condition of the varnish on the matched cherry interior is testament to the quality of the original build on the Typhoon, and her cabins are fully-trimmed and lined to stay cool in the heat of the summer, and warm during the winter months. Her linear galley to starboard houses a Wallas twin-burner hob – running off diesel for safe and reliable cooking on-board, with a deep top-loading refrigerator, microwave and plenty of worktop and storage space. The big wrap-round sofa to port is a great place to relax after a day on the water, and the stunning teak and holly flooring carries through from the saloon to each of the double cabins. Each cabin is ensuite to a heads/shower, and there is also direct access to the aft heads from the main saloon, should you use the occasional sofa berth conversion. It’s a really functional, workable and sociable layout.

For the skipper, the driving position on the Typhoon is near perfect. Throttles and wheel fall directly to hand, with two adjustable bucket seats for helm and navigator, a proper chart area, clear, unobstructed dash and superb sight-lines forward making this Windy a joy to handle on the water. Twin shaft drives, electronic EDC throttles and a powerful thruster ensure stress-free docking, and the hull is finely balanced under way – with exceptional grip, very soft-riding characteristics and faster passage-making potential than her competitors are.

On deck, her deep bathing platform houses a long-reach hydraulic passarelle for easy boarding in the Med., and her deck lockers and cockpit lazarette ensure that there is no issue with space for stores, fenders and general cruising gear. With excellent access to the engine room via a large electrically-operated cockpit deck hatch, this is an engineer’s dream. She has been tended to professionally during her life, and we note recent battery replacements, turbo work, a new generator engine and fresh hull paint, keeping her in tip-top order. With 600 hours now run on her dependable 480HP Volvos, she is just run-in and ready to cruise.

We would be delighted to organise a viewing for you.
