You will get the opportunity to benefit from a national and international award-winning apprenticeship programme that will aid your progression. As an apprentice, you will ‘Earn as you Learn’ with competitive rates of pay.
We value learning and development and encourage our apprentices to sign up to do their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) programme through DofE Direct as well as covering the costs. By doing their DofE, our apprentices gain essential skills and attributes including confidence, resilience, and leadership that support them in life and work. They also give back to our local community, helping individuals and charitable organisations through their DofE volunteering.

Career Progression
When applying to be a Marine Engineer you must have:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at A*- C (9-5) to include Maths at Grade B (6) or above and English plus
- Resistant Materials or relevant science subject
- A strong aptitude for problem-solving and attention to detail
- Evidence of practical mechanical hand skills either at school/ college, work or as a hobby
- Good communication skills
The training you will receive:
- Marine Engineer apprenticeship standard
City & Guilds 2473 Level 2 & 3 in Marine Engineering incl. - Business Improvement techniques (BIT)
- RYA Powerboat Level 2
- Various Berthon courses such as Health & Safety, fixed machinery,
manufacturers’ technical training - LEAN manufacturing as applicable
- Student membership of IMarEST (the marine industry professional body)
- On successful completion of End Point Assessment apprentices are Eng.Tech ready
