The Bluewater 476 is built on a successful hull and deck moulding used by Camper & Nicholson for their very successful Nicholson 476 class of bluewater cruising yachts. Sherlock Marine built JACANA and her sister to a very high standard, with fantastic joinery and well-conceived and installed systems. Of course, the yacht also comes with elegant and powerful sailing characteristics. She was built for an experienced yachtsman with an eagle eye for detail and JACANA has recently been significantly updated in this ownership. She is compact for short-handed sailing, yet powerful for long passages. Of course, she also gleams.
JACANA’s detailed and high quality specification gives her a home from home feel about her. The quality of her finish is outstanding. I have found her solid build and traditional lines make her both sea kindly and easy to handle. She is a very comfortable offshore cruising yacht that is easily driven to her full speed.
I am JACANA’s second owner and during my ownership, she has mostly sailed on the west coast of Scotland. We also sailed her on the 2011 ARC and on her return to our side of the Atlantic, we kept her in Lagos in Portugal for the year in 2014.
JACANA is stiff and well mannered; she sails well on all points of sail. Her traditional deep v-forms in the forward sections come into their own when driving upwind. She does not require constant trimming to keep her on her feet, which is another indication of her fine, long distance cruising pedigree. Her earlier sisters were built at Camper & Nicholson and they were an iconic class.
