A yacht well known to us – we sold QUIVER for the first owner, to the current owner. QUIVER is a yacht of some provenance, being the hull no.1 of the bowman 40’s with many happy and accomplished cruising miles under keel. From stem to stern, very much a British Bluewater classic cruiser with her no nonsense cutter head rig combined with her sea kindly hull and good looks. Much loved in her current ownership she is ready for new adventures with a new skipper.
QUIVER was launched in July 1987, the first Bowman 40 to be built, and is the boat featured in the original Rival Bowman 40 sales brochure. Her first owner, Mr Brown, had a considerable input into her design and owned the boat until 2005 when he sold her to the current owners as he was having a larger boat built. In his ownership she cruised extensively, including Scotland, St Kilda and Outer Hebrides, Biscay, 2 periods in the Med, Spain, Portugal, Azores and N. Africa.
She was designed specifically for offshore cruising and is easily handled by 2 people, and the current owners bought her with that in mind. However, plans changed, as they do, and she has given us huge pleasure and a tremendous feeling of comfort and safety at sea whilst cruising the channel waters over the last 13 years. She has an easy motion at sea and is very dry, with a good sail plan which can be efficiently varied to suit the weather, a staysail and triple reefed main keeping her sailing in a gale, and at anchor she has that row away quality… Look back, and she looks just wonderful!
We have decided to sell her as with 5 grandchildren it is time to change to a boat better suited to gunkholding, but it will be with huge regret that we will part with her.
