ADELIE II is a spectacular example of her class. The Mk II layout is executed in cherry with burr inserts on all the doors, a beautifully configured table and cream leather upholstery. Her saloon is flooded with light. ADELIE II has low hours on the main engine, having only been lightly used locally in the UK prior to shipping to Palma de Mallorca for one season. She was sailed back to the UK in June 2019.
In this ownership she has been totally prepared for a world cruise. Immense care, as well as hard cash, have been expended on this project. Her owners, with the benefit of extensive sailing experience, provided a thorough brief to their professional land-based skipper to refit the yacht to a condition where she would provide excellent reliability throughout their planned circumnavigation. The circumnavigation has now been shelved and so ADELIE II has come to the market. A recent, special and very well sorted bluewater cruising yacht in virtually new condition. She is lovely.
We chose a Discovery 55 because we wanted a safe and proven cruising yacht, providing excellent comfort for owners and friends alike and for being easily managed by the 2 of us without the need for crew. The proven reputation of the Discovery 55, easy rig plan, interior watch-keeping and proper deck saloon were considerations in making this decision. When we bought ADELIE II she was virtually unused and in excellent condition providing us with an excellent canvass to uprate her for world cruising. This job is now complete.
Our last yacht was a Swan 66’ so we had expected less performance than we were used to when we bought ADELIE II. However, her performance exceeded expectations. Sailing ADELIE II is a very rewarding experience. She is an excellent sailing boat with very good feel whilst remaining comfortable and well mannered. In the worst of conditions on the trip from Palma to the UK we were impressed by the softness of the ride. It was the first time in circa 50,000 miles that one of our most experienced crew has weathered gale force conditions without seasickness.
We believe it is essential that a yacht looks good. Looking back from the RIB we always felt very proud of ADELIE II. She has gorgeous lines.
We shall miss ADELIE II but hope that her new owners will have a splendid sailing adventure aboard her. She is ready to go.
