Berthon International’s Annual Market Report

Each year, Berthon International publishes a comprehensive Market Report that reviews global yacht sales activity over the past 12 months and highlights the key trends we expect to shape the year ahead. As bluewater specialists, we offer expert insight and manage luxury yacht sales through our network of international offices.

The Berthon Book

Now in its twentieth edition, the Berthon Book begins each year with a blank sheet of paper and a simple question: what would we genuinely love to read about? From that starting point, the Berthon team gets to work—debating ideas, calling on friends, clients, and contributors to help bring those stories to life.

The result is a collection of original articles, reflections, and insights that sit alongside a curated showcase of the Berthon fleet, both new and pre-owned. The 2024/25 edition is no exception.

Available in both hard and soft copy — as well as in an interactive digital format — we hope you’ll enjoy exploring its pages, however you choose to dive in.

What’s going on around the yard

Ripple

One of the standout projects currently underway in the Big Blue Shed is Ripple, a West Solent One Design built in 1925 and owned by Brian May—managing director of Berthon and great-grandson of the yacht’s original designer. Formerly known as Dinah, she was renamed Ripple after the Grateful Dead song, symbolising both personal renewal and the continuation of a family legacy. Now undergoing a full restoration by Berthon’s apprentices, Ripple is being carefully rebuilt using a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern materials, including laminated iroko and Alaskan yellow cedar. The project provides apprentices with the rare opportunity for hands-on training aboard a classic wooden sailing yacht, delivering invaluable experience in heritage boatbuilding.

Titania

Sailing yacht Titania arrived at Berthon after spending several years ashore in the Hamble. In need of structural attention, our team began by addressing critical issues around the keel, carefully repairing cracks and working methodically through the vessel to ensure she is seaworthy. Once the essential repairs are complete, the Yacht Maintenance & Refit (YMR) team will collaborate with the owner to plan any desired upgrades and aesthetic improvements, tailoring the next phase of the project to suit their vision for the yacht.

Commercial vessels

Berthon’s commercial clients benefit from our comprehensive in-service support, as well as our tailored refit and maintenance programmes. Our contracts include organisations such as the Royal Navy, Border Force, ABP, and others.

Dry Sailors

The Berthon dry sailing service suits all small keel boats with a displacement of no more than 3.5 tonnes (includes Folkboats), a central lifting point and their own road trailer with tow hitch.
