Offshore Enforcement Capability Delivered to the Royal Montserrat Police Service
Located in the Eastern Caribbean, Montserrat is a small but strategically positioned British Overseas Territory with a wide maritime operating area relative to its landmass. Its waters sit within active regional transit routes used for legitimate commercial shipping as well as organised trafficking activity across the Caribbean basin. As an island jurisdiction with no land borders and full reliance on maritime and air access, effective offshore capability is essential for border integrity, interdiction operations, and emergency response. The exposed Atlantic-facing coastline and variable sea conditions further require vessels capable of sustained offshore deployment rather than purely inshore response.
Operating as a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean, Montserrat’s Marine & Immigration Department is responsible for maritime and border security across exposed offshore waters, well beyond inshore response. Their remit includes:
In 2025, the Royal Montserrat Police Service (RMPS) undertook a structured expansion of its marine capability to address evolving border security and offshore enforcement demands within the territory.

In early 2025, the Royal Montserrat Police Service received an ex-RNLI Atlantic 85 RHIB, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). Powered by twin 115hp Yamaha outboards and capable of approximately 35 knots, the Atlantic 85 strengthened inshore response and search and rescue capability, operating effectively in near-gale conditions. The vessel joined the Marine Unit fleet as the 22-metre twin-screw patrol vessel MV Heliconia Star, transferred to them in 2018, with a range of approximately 300 nautical miles and a top speed of 32 knots, prepared to leave service for redeployment to the Turks and Caicos Islands.
While the MV Heliconia Star had provided valuable offshore presence and the Atlantic 85 enhanced inshore response, changing operational requirements highlighted the need for a more agile, high-speed offshore enforcement capability. Earlier in the year, RMPS had already introduced a Gemini 880 Cabin to modernise its fleet. Building on that foundation, operational analysis identified the requirement for increased offshore interception speed, extended range, enhanced crew protection, and integrated surveillance systems capable of supporting sustained enforcement operations in exposed Caribbean waters. The solution was the introduction of two additional custom built Gemini patrol platforms:
Gemini 1060 Cabin Police RIB
A 10.6m fully enclosed offshore enforcement platform designed for sustained high-risk operations. Powered by twin Yamaha 350hp outboards with 656L fuel capacity, the 1060 provides extended patrol endurance, integrated thermal imaging and radar systems, shock-mitigating seating, all-weather crew protection, and a top speed of 54 knots. It serves as the primary offshore command and enforcement asset within the fleet.
Gemini 880 Open Patrol RIB
An 8.8m high-speed open patrol vessel configured for rapid interception and nearshore enforcement. Built on the same commercial deep-V platform, the 880 delivers exceptional agility and response capability while maintaining stability in challenging sea states, and a top speed of 52 knots. It operates as a flexible, fast-response asset supporting the 1060 in layered patrol operations.

The video below features the Gemini 1060 Cabin RIB delivered to the Royal Montserrat Police Service, built November 2025 and delivered January 2026. Built for offshore enforcement and border security operations, this 10.6-metre platform demonstrates the speed, endurance, crew protection, and surveillance capability now in service with RMPS.
A Clear Performance Uplift
At 10.6 metres in length with a 3.25-metre beam, the Gemini 1060 Cabin is powered by twin Yamaha F350NSAX outboards, delivering a top speed exceeding 54 knots.
This represents a substantial operational uplift over previous inshore assets, dramatically reducing interception times and expanding offshore patrol reach.
The propulsion package includes:
Twin 328-litre commercial-grade aluminium fuel tanks (656 litres total capacity) provide extended endurance for offshore patrol operations.
The Gemini 880 complements the 1060, delivering 52 knots in a high-speed open patrol configuration for rapid-response and flexible deployment roles. Together, these vessels significantly reduce interception time, expand patrol radius, and increase maritime presence across territorial waters.
While the fleet also includes a Gemini 880 open patrol vessel for high-speed response tasks, the 1060 Cabin is the primary offshore enforcement platform. (See Gemini 880 Patrol RIB case study for further detail.)

Offshore Construction & Crew Protection
The 1060 Cabin is built on a deep-V offshore commercial hull designed for sustained high-speed operation in exposed sea states.
Structural features include:
The enclosed commercial composite cabin distinguishes the 1060 from open patrol craft. It incorporates:
Crew seating is provided by Ullman Dynamics. Fitted with Echelon shock mitigation seats, engineered specifically for high-speed offshore and tactical applications. Each seat incorporates a mechanically damped suspension system designed to absorb vertical acceleration forces generated in heavy sea states, significantly reducing spinal load and cumulative impact stress on crew during prolonged operations. The integrated forward and aft sliding bases allow optimal positioning at the helm, while adjustable folding footrests and ergonomic grab handles provide secure bracing under acceleration and during sharp manoeuvres. Storage bases beneath each seat maximise onboard efficiency without compromising structural integrity. In operational terms, this seating configuration enhances crew endurance, reduces fatigue-related risk, and supports sustained high-speed deployment in excess of 50 knots, a critical factor for enforcement teams operating in exposed offshore environments.
For a tropical offshore environment, this level of crew protection and climate control directly supports longer patrol durations and sustained operational effectiveness.

Integrated Surveillance & Enforcement Systems
The Gemini 1060 Cabin is configured with a full surveillance and navigation suite suitable for modern maritime policing:
This integrated system provides enhanced maritime domain awareness, night-time detection, target identification and secure communication, all essential for interdiction and border control operations.

Operational Support & Infrastructure
Alongside the delivery of the Gemini 1060 Cabin and 880 Patrol RIB, RMPS invested in a Versadock triple drive-on docking system, designed to berth all vessels simultaneously.
This floating dock solution allows each RIB to be driven directly onto the dock structure without the need for lifting, craning, or slipway launching. The result is immediate operational readiness.
Key operational benefits include:
By keeping both vessels completely out of the water when not in use, the Versadock system significantly reduces marine growth and electrolysis risk, particularly important in warm Caribbean waters where fouling rates are high.
The triple configuration ensures that both the 880 Cabin, 880 Open, and the Atlantic 85, with the 1060 Cabin alongside in the water, are held securely, fully fuelled, and immediately deployable. This reduces crew preparation time and increases patrol availability.
From an operational perspective, the dock enhances:
For a small but strategically important maritime jurisdiction, the integration of the Versadock system ensures that vessel performance is matched by infrastructure reliability, delivering a complete, end-to-end patrol solution rather than simply new hulls.

Optional Extras & Mission Enhancements – Custom Built RIBs
Every Gemini 1060 Cabin can be configured to meet the unique demands of its end user. Optional mission-specific upgrades include integrated ballistic protection systems (rated to BR4+ for defence against 7.62x39mm rounds), remote and manned weapon station mounts, and reinforced hardpoints for radars, EO/IR payloads, and counter-UAS platforms. The deck can be modified with Gemini’s specialist track system for rapid reconfiguration, supporting interchangeable layouts for stretchers, dive gear, cargo, or surveillance operations. Additional options include self-righting systems for extreme environments, active water ballast systems for stability and boarding ops, and gyro stabilisation for improved endurance during long deployments. Interior options range from climate control systems and welfare cabins to heads, galley units, and shock-mitigating seating. From interception to insertion, patrol to protection, Gemini builds each vessel for the role, not the spec sheet. Built to Your Specifications

The introduction of the Gemini 1060 Cabin, supported by the 880 Patrol RIB, delivers a clear operational uplift for the Royal Montserrat Police Service. Offshore interception speeds have increased from 35 knots to 52–54 knots, expanding patrol reach while reducing response times across territorial waters. Enclosed crew protection, shock-mitigating seating, extended fuel capacity, and integrated thermal and radar systems enhance endurance, safety, and maritime domain awareness. Combined with improved fleet availability through modern docking infrastructure, RMPS now operates a faster, more resilient enforcement capability. For a small island territory operating in exposed maritime environments, this represents a measurable improvement in border security, crew protection, and offshore policing effectiveness.
Delivered through Gemini Marine and Berthon RIB Solutions, the Montserrat programme demonstrates how a strategically structured patrol fleet can strengthen maritime control and response capability. For government agencies, police marine units, and defence operators working in demanding conditions, the Gemini 1060 Cabin is a practical, deployable enforcement platform, engineered for sustained offshore operations and high-speed interception.
