The Role

We are looking for passionate and positive people with a keen eye for precision and quality, Berthon has positions available for experienced Shipwrights/Boatbuilders to join our highly skilled team of Shipwrights and their Apprentices on private yachts and commercial refit and repair projects.

Requirements

The following attributes are essential for this role:

  • Recognised Level 3 Boatbuilding Apprenticeship
  • Excellent working knowledge of High-quality composite build and complex repair processes.
  • Ability to work competently with a range of materials including wood and metals
  • Excellent working knowledge of exterior and interior fit out processes
  • Ability to work unsupervised to exacting standards
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Be motivated
  • Reliable
  • Have a good eye for detail to produce top quality work
  • Proven Marine industry track record

The following attributes are desirable for this role:

  • Eye for colour matching for gelcoat repairs
  • Ability to supplement yacht varnishing and finishing processes

Responsibilities

  • Reading and interpreting drawings
  • Assembly of steering systems
  • Keel fittings
  • Skin fittings
  • Deck gear and teak deck installation
  • Window, portlight and hatch Installation
  • Drive chain propulsion system assembly
  • Shaft fitting
  • Fitting of hatches
  • Lazerette fit-out
  • Fitting various fibreglass components
  • Levelling boats
  • Some laminating tasks
  • Fitting a variety of boat furniture
  • Fitting ply bulkheads
  • Fitting cabin sole bearers and cabin doors
  • Cladding bulkheads with polished veneered ply
  • Fitting various fibreglass components
  • Fitting sole boards
